Hi There,
My name is Abigail Clemens ad I have been riding horses since I was about 6. Since moving to Australia I rode at a few diff erent riding centres, none of them were right. As my brother Sam had already ridden at RDA Carine (then stopped), we looked into RDA Capricorn. Both Sam and I began riding at RDA Capricorn and we love it!
However, when I fi rst hopped on Sijo for my fi rst lesson at RDA Capricorn I was scared I was already cantering before I attended RDA but I had been on a trail ride in Busselton and the horse I rode dragged me through the bush and nearly reared through the road. It took a while for me to get my confi dence back, even on the back of the caring pony Sijo. Eventually, I began trotting again and this boosted my confi dence. My instructor Julie said I had become too big for Sijo and I needed to be put onto a horse. I was nervous at fi rst but began to improve. My confi dence levels were so bad that after the trail ride I was scared for the horse to put their head down!
When I began riding horses again, my posture was atrocious! I was told I was going to ride in the roller. For this I rode Breaker, I began to get better with my posture and I had to move onto things like lying down on the horses back and lifting my knees while riding. It was fun! Breaker didn’t mind. I moved onto other horses, Brockie, Alby, Vance. I seemed to be getting better each week. Julie moved me up to the next class and I was so pleased! Halfway through the term, she gave us a choice on who we wanted to ride. At the time I had recently been on a
camp at RDA and had ridden Bullet. We just seemed to click. I loved him. So, no surprise, I picked Bullet.
Bullet is a great horse. We have bonded really well. His name, however, is not a true indication of his speed.....
When I tack Bullet up, he puts his head down so I can slide the bridle over his ears! He lifts his hoofs up with ease. I love him. He never runs when I go and catch him with the halter in plain sight. After riding Bullet for a while now, Julie has told us that we will be doing a horse swap. I will miss riding Bullet, but I will still spend time with him for sure! RDA Capricorn is an amazing place. I love to see the smiles on the other rider’s faces when they achieve something new! My riding has improved and I now free lease my friend’s horse, Cricket. I have even started jumping on him. Thank you to all at RDA Capricorn and to my parents for waking up to my begging telling them to hurry up and get ready to take me riding!!!
